Q. How does #TAXI work?
A.#TAXI is a simple number (#8294) you dial to launch a voice call that connects you to the best cab company for your location.
Our database uses information including LBS (location info provided by your mobile carrier) and in some cases the user profiles repeat customers give to us to get you the right cab for your situation.
#TAXI hunts the lines of the best companies in our database for the first available taxi dispatch to take your call and send you a cab. Even during extremely busy times, #TAXI dials for you in milliseconds.
Each #TAXI call costs between $1.25 and $2.50 per call, depending on your wireless carrier (plus any applicable airtime and data charges). See more on pricing.

Q. Which carriers currently offer it?
A. In the US, AT&T Wireless, Sprint, Boost, and Verizon Wireless (including Alltel).
In Canada, virtually every mobile phone has #TAXI, including Bell Mobility, Solo, Virgin Mobile, Rogers, Fido, TELUS, Koodo, Wind Mobile, Videotron, Sasktel, and MTS.
Q. Where can I use it?
A. Wherever there’s taxi service. This includes all towns with at least 10,000 people, as well as many smaller areas, in particular those with high taxi usage (e.g., resort towns, vacation spots). We currently serve over 3,200 city and towns in Canada and the US.
Q. How does #TAXI choose taxis for customers?
A. #TAXI’s selection is based on our proprietary database, which includes over 10,000 taxicab company profiles. These profiles include details such as the number of cabs in a company’s fleet, where they’re allowed to pick up, where their fleet floats (or specializes), and their average response time. They also reflect feedback from millions of #TAXI users on their experiences with the companies we recommend.
This all creates ratings for each cab company in each city, town, suburb, and neighborhood so we can recommend the best cab company for you.
Q. Can I use #TAXI in Canada if I’m roaming with a US mobile phone?
A. Most US mobile phones will let you do this.
A. Not yet, but we’re working on it.
Q. What kind of service is #TAXI?
A. It’s a premium voice service, technically referred to as an Abbreviated Dialing Code. It’s NOT a short code or SMS service. Basically, it’s sort of like a 1-800 vanity number that you dial by letter.
Q. How do I dial by letter on a BlackBerry?
A. Just press [#] and then hold the [ALT] key down and enter the letters [T][A][X][I]. Then press the call button. Your Blackberry will automatically dial the number, which will show up on your screen as #8294. You can also pop #TAXI (#8294) right into your address book for fast access to a cab anywhere, anytime.
Q. Help! I don’t know which cab company #TAXI connected me to and I have to call them back…
A. With most wireless carriers, #TAXI provides an SMS to your phone at the end of the call so you know who we called on your behalf. However, this SMS does not work if you have privacy settings on that masks your mobile number when calling.
